FILM 2012: #1. It’s A Wonderful Life
Finally getting round to this - posting every film I’ve seen this year I’ve never seen before. It’s a list I do for my own personal obsessive reasons every year, just as a guide to keep track of not only the new releases, but ones not released in 2012 that I’ve missed, just discovered, or never gotten round to until now (as in the case with the first film I watched in 2012, and rather apt for the ‘holiday’ ‘season’ it was too).
I’d put off watching It’s A Wonderful Life for a long time because every clip I’d ever seen was taken from the last few minutes, which makes it seem a) exclusively festive-themed b) twee beyond belief. But really the rest of the film is nothing like the end, and all the seemingly saccharine silliness is plenty justified by that point.
So in summary, I fell foul of ‘judging a book by its cover’, but when marketing companies and gushing critics completely misrepresent the book on said cover, they’re the real ones to blame. I think that makes sense.
